About Gamtae Powder

FINE GAMTAE SEAWEED POWDER

In response to customer requests, Badasoop now offers their prized gamtae seaweed in powder form. With the same flavor as the unseasoned roasted gamtae sheets, this powder can be sprinkled on rice, soup, and eggs; or, if you feel adventurous, follow the recommendation of our chef customers and add it into your pasta dough!

Founded by patriarch Cheolsoo Song, family-owned Badasoop has been providing gamtae using their patented skill sets since 1980. Gamtae has a long history in Korean cuisine dating back to at least the Chosun dynasty, when records show the royal family enjoying it as early as 1609. However, it is still rare and relatively unknown in Korea, as gamtae only grows in uncontaminated sea water and is impossible to farm; its peak season being the dead of winter makes it difficult to harvest by hand. These conditions mean that there are only a handful of folks with enough knowledge to provide quality gamtae, and we are thrilled to be able to partner with one.

Badasoop Gamtae Powder Key Ingredients

Gamtae
Gamtae only grows in uncontaminated, clean seawater under specific conditions, making it impossible to farm and thus still somewhat of a rarity in South Korea. Found in Wando and Jeolla provinces, gamtae’s long history in Korea dates back to the Chosun dynasty, when it was served to the royal family. Gamtae is rich in fiber and contains six times more calcium than milk in addition to an abundance of minerals that help with calcium absorption. Gamtae is also plentiful in potassium and iron, making it a great food for children, pregnant women, and the elderly.
